Beverly Stein, 84, of Dysart, passed away on February 28, 2019, at the Virginia Gay Nursing and Rehab Center in Vinton, Iowa, after a courageous battle with cancer. Visitation with the family will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, March 1, 2019, at Zion Lutheran Church in Dysart. The funeral will be on Saturday, March 2, 2019, at Zion Lutheran Church in Dysart at 11 a.m. There will be a private family burial at Dysart Cemetery at a later date.
Beverly was born September 30, 1934, in Homer, Nebraska to Basil and May (Mason) Higgins. She attended grade school in Craig, Nebraska where she participated in local girls’ club activities. Beverly attended high school in Belle Plaine, Iowa where she graduated in 1952. One of her first jobs after high school was working in the mail department at Funks Seeds in Belle Plaine.
Beverly was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Dysart. She enjoyed crafts, scrap-booking, baking and canning. Her favorite was making gifts for family members’ special occasions, such as weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, baby & bridal showers to name a few.
She married Elmer Stein on September 22, 1953, at Dysart, Iowa. They loved to go dancing. Beverly helped with many chores and outside activities around the family farm where they lived until retiring and moving to Dysart in 1990. She enjoyed spending time with family, especially her grandchildren and great-grand-children.
She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, brother Duane Higgins and a sister, Catherine Higgins Starr. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Elmer, her children Brenda Krause of Marion, Greg (Cathy) Stein of Elberon, Darby (Renee) Stein of Vinton, Randy (June) of Vinton, Pam (Russell) Lawless of Waterloo, 14 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
