Orville Edwin Beenken

Orville Edwin Beenken, 92, of Buckingham, finished his work here and went home to be with God on February 18, 2019. Born on May 6, 1926, Orville was the second of nine children born to Hans and Anna (Bruns) Beenken on their farm near Rake, Iowa. He graduated from Titonka High School prior to serving his country as a corpsman in the United Stated Navy. Following his service, Orville married Jean Koestler on February 8, 1952 in Traer. They recently celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary with a renewal of their vows. Their marriage was blessed by one son, Galen Orville. Orville and Jean made their home in Buckingham where Orville served as the manager of the Buckingham Co-op Grain Company. Orville was passionate about his work at the co-op and enjoyed serving the people of the farm community in the area for more than 50 years. Given this, it was rare to travel anywhere in the state of Iowa without someone being acquainted with Orville. Orville was also a faithful servant of God and his country, serving and holding offices for many years as a member of Geneseo United Methodist Church and the Traer American Legion. In addition to his career and service to God and country, Orville enjoyed gardening, fishing, golf, playing cards, and spending time with his family.

Orville is survived by his wife Jean; son and daughter-in-law Galen and Kylie Beenken; grandchildren: Noah and Brooklyn; siblings: Arthur (Marlene), Leroy, Harriet (Merlyn Thompson) and Duane Beenken. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Irvin (Orpha), Clarence, and Kenneth Beenken; sister: Helen (George) Schmidt; and one sister-in-law: Joyce Beenken.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Geneseo United Methodist Church.
