Bob Elmer Heckt

Bob E. Heckt was born October 5, 1963, at Virginia Gay Hospital in Vinton, Iowa; the son of Marlin and Marlene (Bryan) Heckt. He graduated from Dysart Geneseo High School in 1982.

Bob grew up as a farm kid teaching himself how to build motors and working on cars for fun. Bob was always known for having the loudest and fastest toys growing up. On September 15, 1985, Bob closed down shop to take his business to Dallas to pursue engine building but found his way back to Dysart to open his own engine building business in 1992. Bob had a true talent for building precision engines. He enjoyed having people visit his shop, teaching his two kids, Tanner and Courtney how to ride dirt bikes and four wheelers at the family farm, and his dogs, Shelby and Caesar. Bob also served on the Dysart Fire Department for many years. He was most known for having a good sense of humor, and being a hard worker, but also willing to have a good time. Bob was a master of his craft with engine building and built everything with a passion for his customers.

Bob, 58, died on October 15, 2021, at MercyOne Medical Center with his children present.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Marlin and Marlene Heckt. He is survived by his two children, Tanner (Lesa) Heckt of Urbandale, and Courtney (Jakeb) Cochran of Tiffin; and a brother, Bill (Linda Meyer) Heckt of Clutier.

Memorials may be directed to the family. The family ask that anyone with old school cars or cars with Bob’s work done to them, to please be driven to the celebration. A visitation will be held at the Dysart Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 20, 2021 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM and a graveside service at the Dysart Cemetery on Thursday, October 21, 2021 at 10:30. After the burial, there will be a luncheon at the Community Building from 11:30 – 1:00 PM. Overton Funeral Home, Dysart, is assisting the family.
