Charles Otto Hampton was born in Belle Plaine, IA; the son of Charles and Zola (Holst) Hampton. He served in the United States Army in two tours during the Vietnam War. Charles began as a welder on the trains in Belle Plaine. He then moved to Colorado during the service. Charles welded on the Royal Gorge, the Golden Gate Bridge, the Boone, IA bridge and the Mississippi Bridge between Clinton and Illinois. He also worked on the Eisenhower Tunnel and was a crane operator on the Mile High Building in Colorado. Charles profession ended after he received an injury from a crane.
Charles passed away on Friday, September 11, 2020 at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown at the age of 76. He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Owen Catron and Aaron Catron and a brother-in-law Mark Lindeman. Charles is survived by two daughters: Traci Hampton of Cedar Rapids and Staci (Rob) Erickson of Anamosa; five grandchildren; a brother Wynnfield Catron of Traer and two sisters: Kris Lindeman of Dysart and Susan (Robert) Thompson of Cedar Falls.
Military Rites will be conducted by the Traer American Legion.
