Darlene was born on July 26, 1930, on the family farm in LaPorte City, Iowa, the daughter of Thomas & Vivian (Vanderheyden) Taylor. She grew up in Tama County, near the Geneseo Township. She attended the Geneseo School, graduating in the class of 1948. After high school, Darlene worked a short time in Waterloo, where she did clerical work. On February 26, 1949, Darlene was united in marriage to Keith Peters. He preceded her in death, in 2000. The couple welcomed 4 children into their family.

She worked very hard, as a homemaker and matriarch, of her family. When Darlene was not busy caring for her family, she would also help her husband Keith with farm chores, including running the corn picker. To say Darlene was a hard worker, would be an understatement; later in life, she worked as a home health aide for the Tama County Public Health Department. She always put others before herself; she was an extremely selfless and kind person.

Darlene was a longtime faithful member of the Dysart United Methodist Church, where she was very active in the Women’s groups, and providing meals for funeral luncheons. In her free time, she enjoyed gardening, canning, and was a wonderful cook. She was an avid reader and enjoyed playing cards, belonging to several local card clubs, throughout the years. She enjoyed nature a great deal, and loved to bird watch; cardinals being her favorite. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and although she lived a long, wonderful life and got to experience many things in her 92 years, she will be greatly missed by her family.

She is survived by her children Susan (Larry) Kroemer of Cedar Rapids, June (David) Wilson of Hudson, WI, Roger Peters of Dysart and Sharon Monteleon (fiancé Keith Stubblefield) of Republic, MO; grandchildren Kurt (Christina) Kroemer, Andy Kroemer, Jill (Dustin) Wald and Carl Wilson; great-grandchildren Brylee, Blakelyn, Nile, Wynne, Micah, Harper, Wilson and Drew. She rejoins in Heaven her parents; husband Keith; sisters Eleanor Taylor Parker and Carol Jean Thompson.
