Howard Pippert

Howard Henry Pippert, 89, passed away at Parkview Manor in Reinbeck on Monday, June 10, 2019. Howard was born on February 14, 1930, in rural Dysart, the son of Benjamin and Mary (Schmidt) Pippert.  He graduated from Dysart High School and was a member of the Dysart United Methodist Church.  He also served on the Dysart Cemetery board, was the Monroe Township clerk, and was a member of the American Legion.  Howard served in the Army during the Korean Conflict and returned home to farm near Dysart.  He was united in marriage to Patricia Caster in 1952.  Howard loved visiting with people and shared his gift of singing at church, weddings, and funerals.  He loved spending time with his family, especially the little ones.  He was an avid reader, which was evident in his large book collection.  Pat and Howard enjoyed square dancing for many years.  You could usually stop by and have a great conversation along with a snack of peanuts.  Howard moved to Reinbeck in 2015 to be near his son.  He was always willing to help a neighbor or friend.  Howard was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife of 51 years, Pat; sisters Franny Degner, Violetta Schuchart, Marie Bendull, Dorothy Halupnik, Kathryn (Ocheltree) Neymeyer; his brothers-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.  Howard is survived by his children, Sandy (Ron) Gerlt of Red Oak, Iowa, Tom (Diane) Pippert of Reinbeck, Iowa, Craig (Susie) Pippert of Mason City, Iowa, and Sharon (Craig) Nolin of Virginia Beach, Virginia; a sister-in-law, Pat Caster of Sun City West, Arizona; 11 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and many other relatives and friends.

The burial will be in Dysart Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Dysart American Legion. Brunch will be served in the church fellowship hall following the burial.
