Irene Dorothy Olson was born on May 1, 1931, in Clinton, the daughter of David and Lois (Carlson) Palmer. She grew up in Lyons and Clinton, Iowa and graduated from Lyons High School. Irene served her country in the Woman’s Army Corps beginning in 1950 and was honorably discharged in 1953. She attained the rank of Sergeant. On March 1, 1955, she was united in marriage to Lewis Olson in Clinton. The couple made their home in Clinton, Winterset, Marshalltown, Camanche, and settled in Dysart. Lewis died on April 30, 2001. Irene worked as a seamstress for many years. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and recently went on the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. Irene died at the age of 88 on October 10, 2019, at Sunnycrest Nursing Center in Dysart. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four brothers, David, LaVerne, Stanley, and William; and a sister, Shirley. Irene is survived by two daughters, Susan Pippin of Bellevue, Nebraska and Wanda (David) Petersen of Dysart; five grandchildren, Kenneth Pippin of Nebraska, Jackie Pippin of Nebraska, Cale (Courtney) Petersen of Dysart, Reece (Melissa) Petersen of Dysart, and Paige (Jamie) Huebner of Waukee; eleven great grandchildren, Violet, Patrick, Kylie, Hailey, Taryn, Grady, Jailyn, Piper, Palmer, Hattie, and Louie; two sisters, Gennette Nelson of Clinton and Elizabeth Newsome of Clinton; a brother, Louis Palmer of Clinton; and many nieces and nephews.
Burial will be at Dysart Cemetery on Tuesday, October 15, 2019, at 10:00 AM.
