Marilyn Graduated from Ogden High School, in Ogden, Iowa. She then continued her studies at Iowa State College in Ames, Iowa, where she met Kay Don Kahler and married him 2 days after his 21st birthday, on July 11, 1954. He was drafted into the army, so they lived in England where he was stationed the first few years of their marriage.

Marilyn was married to Kay Don for 68 years. They lived, in Tulsa, Oklahoma; Shelton, Ct; and Matthews, NC. They have two children, Scott Kahler, (spouse, Loretta Kahler) and Dara Ritchel; along with two grandchildren, Katelyn Kahler, and Charles Ritchel.

While Marilyn was still healthy, she enjoyed traveling with her husband. They would travel frequently to Iowa to visit family, since they are both from the area. They have traveled to California to see their nephew get married, they have been to Hawaii, and traveled to Florida yearly for many years. They have traveled abroad and had taken many cruises and lived a full life together.

Marilyn’s health has declined over the past few years after she had a stroke. She recently developed Alzheimer’s Disease and her loving husband took care of her during this difficult time. She was placed in hospice for a few hours when she passed with her husband and daughter by her side.

A Celebration of Marilyn’s life will be held on Saturday, October 22nd at 11:00 AM at the Overton Funeral Home in Traer. Inurnment will be held at the Buckingham Cemetery and will be private.
