Rex Jon Betts

Rex Jon Betts, 67, passed away in his home suddenly on Tuesday morning.  He is survived by his loving wife Janelle, two children Daniel (Amber) and Jeniffer (Hassan), two adoptive daughters in spirit Rachida and Saaida, three adoptive sons in spirit James, Erik, and Shawn, his sister Deana (Tom), one granddaughter Sky and three step grandchildren Ethan, Chris, and Jasmine.  He was preceded in death by his parents Louis and Elsie.  He will also be deeply missed by his two very special dogs, Tuffy and Matty.

In life, Rex was always the first person to lend a hand.  He was a kind and generous person. He loved the church and was an active member at both Celebrations Christian Church in Waterloo and Abundant Life Church in San Antonio, Mexico.

Rex was passionate about business.  He opened a successful cutlery company in 1979 with his partner Lou Rausch in rural Traer.  Over the years the business expanded to include industrial blades and robotic metal finishing.  The business is now located on the edge of Traer.   In 2016 Rex was honored with the Renew Rural Iowa Entrepreneur Award.

Rex was well traveled, his favorite place to visit was the Black Hills of South Dakota.  Special trips over the years included a recent cruise to the Caribbean with his family, a mission trip to Bolivia with his son, various hunting trips, and a European trip with his wife, all of which will be memories the family will treasure forever.  Rex was also a pilot and a black belt in Tae Kwon Do.   He enjoyed boating and riding motorcycles.  Rex’s favorite place to be was enjoying the sunset on his patio, surrounded by family and friends, overlooking beautiful Lake Chapala, Mexico.

Rex will be forever missed and loved by all who got the opportunity to know him.
