Traer- Terry L. Hiltabidle, 76, of Traer, passed away unexpectedly on December 24, 2018 at his home.
Terry is survived by his wife, Sharon Hiltabidle (Smith) ; his two children, Scott Hiltabidle, Amy (Kirk) Crawford, his two grandsons, Kody and Kolten Crawford, and his sister Diana Thomas. He is predeceased by his parents, Charles E. and Anna Mae (Shell) Hiltabidle, and two brothers, Larry (Laura Nell) Hiltabidle, and Richard (Wanema) Hiltabidle,
Terry was born February 2, 1942, in Allerton, Iowa. He graduated from Allerton High School in 1960. He then went on to attend Northwest Missouri State University and received his BA degree in teaching and coaching. Terry then attended Truman University where he earned his Master’s in Administration. After that, he continued his education and pursued his Masters in Mathematics from Purdue University.
On June 5, 1966, Terry married his true love, Sharon K. Smith, and they shared 52 amazing years together. Terry started his career as a Mathematics Teacher and basketball coach at Wayne Community Schools in Corydon, Iowa. Then Terry worked at Shivers in Corydon as a manager. Terry then moved his family to Traer, Iowa where he accepted the Purchasing Manager position at Traer Manufacturing. After retiring from Traer Manufacturing, Terry decided he was not ready to be done working. Terry then went to work at Meskwaki Bingo and Casino, where he worked as a Security Guard up until his passing.
Terry was a devoted father, grandfather, and husband. He enjoyed gardening, being outside, watching sports, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes, watching his grandsons in their many activities, and spending time with his family. He was involved with his community and served on the school board for several years. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Sunday, February 3rd at 1:00 pm at the North Tama Activity Center (212 North Main Street) in Traer, Iowa.
