Vernon Zmolek

Vernon John Zmolek was born on March 7, 1947, in Waterloo, the son of Edward and Helen (Yuska) Zmolek. He graduated from North Tama High School in 1965.  Vernon then served his country in the United States Army.  On October 3, 1970, he was united in marriage to Judy Hulme.  Vernon worked for Manatt Concrete for many years and also enjoyed working after hours.  He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church and the American Legion.  He enjoyed the Iowa Hawkeyes and attending his kids’ and grandkids’ sporting events.  Vernon died peacefully at the age of 75 on April 11, 2022.  He was preceded in death by his parents and two grandchildren, Justin and Gabriel.  Vernon is survived by his wife, Judy of Traer; 4 children, Corey (Elizabeth) Zmolek of Bloomfield, Anita (Martin) Dostal of Traer, Heidi (Michael) Strouth of Hudson, and Maria (Jeremy Dvorak) Zmolek of Bondurant; 4 siblings, Eugene Zmolek, Loren Zmolek, Collene Gorell, and Rick Zmolek; and 11 grandchildren.  Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at 10:30 AM, at St. Paul Catholic Church.  The burial will follow at Buckingham Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Traer American Legion.  The visitation will be on Monday, April 18, 2022, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Overton Funeral Home in Traer.
