Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, AC was born in 15 march 1977, in the Cheruvannur, Kerala. Sandeep Unnikrishnan was born in Cheruvannur, Kozhikode District, Kerala. Later, he moved to Bangalore with his family. He was the only son of K. Unnikrishnan, a retired ISRO officer, and Dhanalakshmi Unnikrishnan. After that, Sandeep spent 14 years at The Frank Anthony Public School, Bangalore, completing his schooling in 1995 in the ISC Science stream. Indeed, he has a childhood dream of joining the Army. Also, he was a good athlete.
In pursuit of his dream, Sandeep joined the National Defence Academy in Pune, in 1995. Thereafter, he graduated from the Indian Military Academy on June 12, 1999. Later, he was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the 7th Battalion of the Bihar Regiment in the Indian Army. Moreover, Sandeep was also part of Operation Vijay in July 1999.
Military career
Sandeep Unnikrishnan joined the National Defence Academy in 1995 and graduated as a Lieutenant. After that, he was commissioned into the 7th Battalion of the Bihar Regiment (Infantry) on June 12, 1999. Also, he actively participated in the Kargil War of 1999.
Over the years, he achieved promotions and became a Captain on June 12, 2003. Later, he got promoted to Major post on June 12, 2005.
His training and courses included topping the ‘Ghatak Course,’ earning the ‘Instructor’ grading and commendation in 2006. Moreover, he got the training at the High Altitude Warfare School in Gulmarg.

Operation Black Tornado, Mumbai (26/11): Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan
On the night of November 26, 2008, Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan led the 51 Special Action Group (51 SAG) in the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel during the Mumbai attacks. Moreover, His team worked to evacuate hostages and engaged in an aggressive firefight with terrorists. In a critical moment, Major Unnikrishnan chased the terrorists alone and cornered them. However, he was seriously shot during the fight. His last words were, “Don’t come up, I will handle them.” This act of bravery resulted in the counterbalancing of the terrorists. He gave up his life to save many lives.
